LAA MEMBER INSURANCE PROGRAMME

Welcome to LAA member
Insurance programme

AIR COURTAGE ASSURANCES has launched a new insurance programme especially designed for LAA members and exclusively dedicated to LAA members : a "PILOT-LED INSURANCE SCHEME".

The concept to attaching the coverage to the pilot, instead of attaching it to the aicraft, has been approved by the CAA as it fully meets the EC legal requirements.

As an independant insurance broker, we have designed this programme closely with the LAA and have negotiated a programme that rewards safety initiatives. The LAA Member Insurance has been implemented to encourage safety by granting insurance premium discounts for participation to LAA-approved training and safety schemes (you can download the list of eligible trainings below).

The tailor-made insurance programme will provide you with customized insurance solutions if you are in one of the following cases:

YOU ARE A LAA MEMBER, AND YOU DO NOT FLY YOUR AIRCRAFT (YET)

Hands-On Builders (you are involved in building an aircraft, whether assembling a kit aircraft or designing an experimental aircraft, either actually leading the project or helping out).

This coverage aims at paying on your behalf all sums you shall become legally liable to pay as compensatory damages in respect of bodily injury and/or property damage and/or loss of use which result from an accident arising from building, restoring or maintaining activities.
You and your family (partner and children) will be covered whilst within the confines of an airfield, for any sum you shall become legally liable to pay as compensatory damages in case of an occurence resulting in a bodily injury and/or a property damage. This insurance includes damage caused by a vehicle airside.

You can opt to purchase Personal Accidents in case of death or disability following an occurence while boarding, onboard or alighting the aircraft.

YOU ARE A PILOT AND YOU DO NOT OWN AN AIRCRAFT

Several coverages are available for you.

This coverage aims at paying on behalf of you all sums that you shall become legally liable to pay, whatever the aircraft flown, as compensatory damages in respect of bodily injury and/or property damage and/or loss of use, which result from an occurence arising from an aircraft flown or under your custody or control.
The coverage is also extended when the aircraft is on the ground.

This coverage EXCLUDES property damages to the aircraft flown.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ):

This is a liability insurance attached to the pilot himself.

Thanks to this liability insurance, the pilot will be covered for any bodily injury or material damage to third parties caused by an accident resulting from the use of any aircraft belonging to a LAA member.

The pilot will therefore be covered for all aircraft and can with an owner’s permission, legally fly any other aircraft within terms of their license, their qualifications and their insured weight level.

This insurance is available through our application form. Once accepted by the insurance company, and subject to the payment of your insurance premium, your proposal form will constitute your policy schedule.

Some aircraft have better safety records than others, and the rates applied will depend on the MTOW of your aircraft and the number of passengers that can be carried in.

The geographical limits are wwide. You will be covered Worldwide, excepted in the USA and Canada and subject to LSW617H market standard clause.

If you want to fly in a country that is not covered, we can extend it, subject to prior approval by the insurer.
You have no legal obligation to be insured prior to the flights.

However, the Hands-On-Builder liability insurance has been especially designed for LAA members who build their own aircraft, whether they assembly a kit Aircraft or design their own experimental aircraft.

Through the stage of building an aircraft, you can cause an injury to someone or damage their property. This Hands-On Builder Liability insurance will cover the sums you will be legally liable to pay
At the inception of your insurance policy, you can opt to perform your own repairs in case of a total loss, rather than having it repaired by a professional.
This will save some money to the insurer which will not have to pay for the labour cost (when the aircraft is technically and legally reparable). Therefore, this option entitles you to a discount of your insurance premium.

The hull insurance is granted on an agreed value basis, which means that you agree, together with the insurer, the price of your aircraft.

Air Courtage Assurances recommends you to insure your aircraft forr what it would cost if you had to replace it with an identical aircraft (Make, model and year) rather than considering the price you have paid for it.

Overinsuring the aircraft is not recommended, as it will increase the price of your insurance premium, but under-insuring the aircraft could lead to an aircraft considered as a "total loss" while it could have been repaired...
Air Courtage Assurances has negotiated an insurance programme that enables you to customize your price.

-          Elect a higher deductible

-          Attend recurrent trainings approved by LAA

-          Opt for the DIY formula

This insurance programme has been especially designed for LAA members, in order to encourage safety measures enhanced bu LAA.

For non LAA members, please contact our team at aviation@air-assurances.com
You can download the list of trainings taken into account by the insurance company in the list that can be downloaded on our website.
The insurance requirements are set up by EC 785/2004 Regulation.  The amount vary depending on the maximum take-off weight of the aircraft and the maximum number of passengers carried.

It is the flight that must be insured, and if you opt for the pilot-attached formula, you will have your liability insurance covered on any aircraft belonging to an LAA member, subject to the MTOW and the maximum number of passengers declared in your insurance application form.
The LAA members can choose between several levels of passenger and third party legal liability insurance, on a Combined Single Limit basis, which means that there is no sublimit for passenger or third party, up to GBP5,000,000.
For higher limits, you will get it upon request and subject to the insurer's agreement.

Whatever the limit bought, it automatically increases to GBP7,500,000 when you fly to airfields where MOD / Crown Indemnity is required.
Are considered to be "LAA aircraft" all aircraft belonging to an LAA member.

The personal accident insurance aims to protect yourself or your loved ones financially in the event that you suffer an accident or disability.

This insurance can be purchased for the policyholder only or for all pilots and passenger seats.
